Introduction
Appearance
Notable Features
He has scars from war and the rough work of a sailor. The biggest, most notable scar is one slash across his chest from a bayonet. He also has quite a few moles decorating his body.Personal Style
He does not conform to fashion, instead favouring the styles he adopted in his time in Cuba: open, light shirts, flexible fabrics that provide for easy movement and that he doesn't mind getting blood on while he's tending to injured animals.Circumstances
Currently
Guillermo dedicates his life to his animal sanctuary. Most of his charges are wildlife, but he occasionally takes in particularly injured strays.Wealth is not new to him, though comfort and being among the upper class is. He is accustomed to abject poverty and ruins and being among the diseased and dying. He's used to living rough on ships and so life in London comes as a culture shock in many ways, with so many conventions and expectations of him he doesn't understand.
He works hard. It's all he's ever known how to do. He's always kinda wanted free time, but it's such a foreign concept, when he finds himself with it, he doesn't know what to do. Slowly, he is learning to partake in leisure activities. He is illiterate and so is attempting to learn how to read, but when he wants to do something 'fun', his instinct has always been animals.
Zoos and Circuses and Carnivals he finds strange, though he'd visit them, there's something inherently sad about an animal in a cage, or trained to do tricks. He relates to them on an almost overwhelming level, having lived a life that was never his own, tortured and controlled by the choices of others. Instead, his favourite thing to do is to take a small sailing vessel out to sea and watch the whales.
Health & Capabilities
He has many injuries from battles. On bad days, he has a pronounced limp and difficulty sleeping due to frequent nightmares and PTSD. He is fit, though, and physically still strong and active.Socioeconomics
Guillermo is rich, having inherited his wealth from his father who benefited in major ways from wars and corruption. Though Guillermo never really had the chance to enjoy the benefits of his wealth until very recently, he is not familiar nor particularly interested in the ways of the rich and behaving as they do.Skills & Talents

Habits & Routines
Guillermo spends a lot of time tending to wounded animals, or out on the water. But he is also makes an effort to learn new things and can be found studying and visiting places that have to do with animals.Personality
Guillermo is a haunted man, though his sensitive spirit remains unbroken. He cares deeply about animals and the unfortunate. He doesn't care so much about fitting in among his peers, as he's never really understood how to be who he is expected to be.He's rough around the edges, far more used to being around killers and victims than the normal London upper class. He isn't particularly social and can come off as shy, aloof, and perhaps unintelligent to those who do not know him. He's not very talkative, but for those who strike his interests, he can be intensely dedicated.
Background
History
Guillermo was born upon a ship. The son of a famed privateer Juan Fontana, Guillermo spent the majority of his life at sea. Beginning in the waters around China, he was never permitted a normal childhood, instead surrounded by violent sailors and bloodshed, and serving as a cabin boy until he was old enough to fight. It wasn't easy to carve the young, sensitive boy into a killer. As a child, Guillermo was curious and fascinated by marine life. He loved to watch the whales, the dolphins, the sharks, the turtles.
But his father was a relic in a world of navies. An angry, bitter man clinging to the past. He hated Guillermo's free spirit and did everything in his power to stomp it down. They hated each other, because no matter how violent Guillermo grew, no matter how good he became at guerrilla tactics and warfare, he never quite lost that sensitive edge. Never quite stopped watching the waters for the whales. And never quite learned to respect the washed-up old man.
Through the power of corruption, backdoor dealings, and greedy politicians, Juan built himself a reputation, a fortune, a position in the navy as a general, and a massive estate. He sent his only son to oversee their property in Cuba in 1880. There, Guillermo found himself embroiled in a whole new kind of war, and once again was forced into a life of violence.
In Cuba, he was alone, forced to survive without a crew of sailors obligated to his father to have his back, and never fit in with his cutthroat wealthy peers, instead his love of animals and a desire to save the lives of those who could not fight for themselves in the constant conflicts propelled him into the role of protector of survivors, of animals, of the unfortunate would-be casualties. He turned his father's land into a sanctuary for mending dogs and wildlife injured in the frays of war.
His father died years later at sea in 1886, and was regaled a hero due to twisted truths and biased storytelling.
Guillermo inherited a fortune and a reputation of violence and heroics. He fled Cuba first chance he got, eager to chase a life without the need for violence. He left his sanctuary to people he trusted and hopped on a ship to make landfall in London where he built a new life. A life he hoped would finally be filled with healing instead of festering.
His first order of business was to create a shelter and a place of healing for injured animals. Not formally trained in veterinarian medicine, he did not have the credentials to lean on, but he was done with letting expectations hold him back.
Plotting
Romance
Guillermo would do best with an extroverted man. Someone fun who can teach him to have fun.Enemies to Lovers: I can see him being drawn to larger than life personalities of men he would lowkey despise, like other soldiers or criminals. Anyone with a violent streak, as he is trying to separate himself from his own violence, it is still all he's ever really known and there's a comfort in the devil you know.
Age Gap: Any age really works, but I think an older, father figure type romance could be very sweet for him, especially if the older man is more accepting and encouraging of his more sensitive side.
Friends
Really any animal loving extrovert could easily establish a friendship with him.Antagonism
Guillermo has strong feelings about war and violence, having been steeped in both his whole life.I think a dynamic between him and another violent character whom he's forced to work with or spend time with by circumstance might be interesting.
