History

Alex was born in 1854 to a working class family in South London; he was the third born in a total of seven kids. Three of whom had passed away in childhood due to their poor living conditions. He doesn't remember much of them except their names and how they looked. His younger sister was murdered in her early teens, and her death has affected Alex a great deal, and was the primary reason why he chose to join Scotland Yard.

Living conditions in his early childhood were not comfortable. His family shared a home with several others, and food was often scarce. He often remembered while playing outside, having to steal scraps of from various stalls so his siblings wouldn't go hungry.

This had caught the attention of a local gang ran who, upon finding out that he was stealing food, beat him near bloody. But this didn't deter him, and each time he recovered and went out to grab food and they found out, they would return the beating. This went on several times, until he was dragged into a meeting with the local leader of the gang. A young man in his 20s named Briggs. They talked and eventually, Alex was inducted into the gang as one of Brigg's young enforcers.

Food came by more regularly, but the beating, unfortunately didn't stop. Only they came at the hands of the constables whenever they caught him rather than the gangs.

His life with Briggs and his crew came to an abrupt end when Alex got into a scuffle with a rival gang, and in retaliation, one of the rival gang's members stabbed his sister, Francesca while out playing with friends. This nearly broke Alex, and he fell into a deep depression for several years, leaving the gang life altogether.

He first joined Scotland Yard as a means of getting back at those responsible for his sister's murder. But as a constable he learned far worse happened to many other families, and he often went out of his way to investigate these crimes and bring it back to his superiors, which were always quick to reprimand him for "stepping out of line". Yet, this caught the attention of some important people who brought him on to become part of the CID, which he was more than happy to accept.

As an investigator, especially an investigator dealing in homicide, he became aware of just how tragic a city London could be. It was during his early years of the CID where he met James, his now ex-boyfriend, who had left a life of crime and was trying to make a better life for himself, much like Alex had, which was how they had first connected.

A couple years into their relationship however, and Alex learned his partner had not in fact left a life of crime, but was actively using his name to extort individuals and even get into dangerous circles with dangerous people. Once Alex found out, he quickly ended the relationship and kicked James out of his flat to fend for himself, telling him if he heard his name being used he would personally ensure James's life was ruined.

A year later he met Analise, his ex-girlfriend who he met from a close friend, and happened to be a freelance detective. They became close but the relationship fizzled out by their fourth year together, and they agreed to mutually part ways.
