Established approximately thirty years ago by Ambrose "Rosie" Wilkes, the Black Powder Gang is the largest gang in the East End. Having made their money with protection rackets and the sex trade, they directly control a large swathe of the north-west of Whitechapel. Their influence spreads across the entire area, though, and no one is out of their reach.

Predominately English, the Black Powders have always been known to butt heads with the Greenstreet Gang. Those conflicts have escalated recently, and with the death of Peter Long, one of Rosie's trusted inner circle, war is all but certain.

The Black Powders operate primarily out of the Gun, a brothel on the corner of Artillery Lane and Crispin Street, but they own several other brothels around the area. They also directly own, or have indirect control, of a large number of private residences across Whitechapel.

The Gun

The original home of the Black Powders, the Gun is as respectable an establishment as an East End brothel can be. Rosie is known to be a harsh, but fair, owner, and for paying his girls well. The constant presence of the Black Powders, and usually Rosie himself, mean that only a true moron would mistreat any of the girls that work there. For that alone it's become a popular venue for those seeking its services. Lottie Payne, Rosie's mother, is the madame and house mother of the brothel, and rules her roost with the same sort of gentle brutality her son is known for.
